New Orleans biotech company Wibi+Works has been awarded $400,000 from the National Institutes of Health to continue work on a stem cell-based therapy to treat rheumatoid arthritis.
New Orleans CityBusiness reports the two-year-old company based out of the New Orleans BioInnovation Center has successfully completed tests in several pre-clinical models of the disease.
Developed by Dr. Aline Betancourt, the firm's patent-pending technology produces anti-inflammatory stem cells, which are then used to manage areas of inflammation.
