A man was arrested for assaulting a teenager and stealing his bicycle in Watsonville Friday, police said.? The 16-year-old boy was riding in the area of Union Street and East Front Street at around 6:30 p.m. when a man approached him and demanded his bicycle, police said. When the victim refused, the man struck him on the head with a blunt object, knocking him to the ground.
The suspect took the bicycle and rode away.? The victim called police, who followed up on the information he provided and found a suspect at a residence on Lincoln Street. The victim identified that person as the man who took his bicycle, and officers found the bicycle and returned it to the victim.
The suspect, identified as Israel Rivas Garibay, 29, of Watsonville, was arrested for robbery and a probation violation. Anyone with information about the case has been asked to call Watsonville police at (831) 768-3350.
